The Lowdown
Biology is all about living organisms. As a subject intimately bound up with modern, global issues, Biology can help address problems ranging from climate change, to poverty, to loss of biodiversity.
The course is modular in structure and provides a significant degree of freedom in how you want to approach your studies. Students are not confined to the lab all day: one highlight of the subject is the ecological field trip taken by first years. Over the next two years, undergraduates are given much greater freedom to pursue the topics available that interest them most. They may also achieve an MBiol by taking an optional lab or field-based fourth year.
Students are also provided with training in key skills each year, where they develop quantitative and practical abilities, such as dissecting.
You will need to have studied Biology at A Level (or equivalent), along with Physics, Maths, or Chemistry. An A* grade in at least one of these subjects is also required.
