Oxford – Chemistry

This subject considers what matter is composed of and how it behaves, looking in detail at its molecular structure. Undergraduates will study a wide range of topics including sustainable energy, synthesis and catalysis, and computational chemistry. Chemistry is one of the larger science courses, with an annual intake of almost 200 undergraduates.

Chemistry is constantly evolving and joining the Faculty here will place a student at the cutting edge of the subject. The department boasts world-class researchers and tutors, and top-notch facilities. Students’ time will be split between working in laboratories, tutorials, and lectures.

The course lasts four years, providing an excellent chance for students to become acquainted with topics as diverse as biochemical warfare and quantum mechanisms. Undergraduates tend to specialise in topics as they work their way through the course; by fourth year, they undertake research in a laboratory.

To apply for Chemistry, you will need A Levels (or equivalent) in Chemistry and Maths, in addition to Further Maths or an extra science. A*s in two of these subjects are also required.
